What has Jasper Liu been up to since the end of Pleasantly Surprised? Most of you will know that he's been filming for Tudou's drama, "My Ghost Friend" 我的鬼基友, which is yet to air. But that Jasper...he really does not sleep! Between performing with Morning Call, doing advertisements and modelling for his solo SPOP photo shoot, it's just been announced that he'll be staring in a new drama at the end of the month!
Paired up with Mandy Wei of "Say Yes I do Again", Jasper will be the leading man of the drama "When I See You Again" 他看她的第2眼. The synopsis is yet to be confirmed totally, but it seems Jasper will be playing a Director of an investment firm, handsome, clever with good taste in clothes, while Mandy will be a B&B owner with a big heart and lots of personality. It seems like Mandy and Jasper's characters meet either in high school or university and Mandy's character saves Jasper's character from some bullying, but for some reason, they don't think they should get together. But 10 years later they meet again...will sparks fly this time? If you ask me, the story sounds like it'll be somewhat similar to Rainie Yang and Show Luo's "Hi, My Sweetheart!"...
The cast has been confirmed as well and the line-up sees him reunited with Pleasantly Surprised cast member, Zooey Tseng (who played Linda in the Figaro Crew)! Zooey has been in two projects with Puff (Just You, Pleasantly Surprised) and now two with Jasper...Great to see a familiar face on this new project! Other cast members include Jet Chao and Ivy Shao.

The usual press release and related photoshoot was held at SETTV today. Jasper and Mandy had fun with some silly poses. There was also some joking around. Jasper said that he likes girls with long hair, they can be cute, but also sexy. Mandy said she'd lost 5 kgs and blamed Jasper jokingly because she said that he was the youngest or one of the youngest actors she'd worked with (and still she is 2 years older than him) and she had to keep up a strict diet to look slender and young. They also had some funny poses leaning against the wall looking at each other. Jasper posted an Instagram picture talking about how he looked like a pervert in that pose. Haha! Haha! Do I like this pairing? I'm not sure. Despite all my picture spamming, I'm not overly excited. I had no interest whatsoever in "Say I do Again" and I have heard that Mandy can play the type of character that I don't like. I am also biased because I just loved the Puff and Jasper combination (Which you might have guessed...). I feel Mandy does seem like a slightly more mature actress and there like there are a number of stars they could have matched up with Jasper that would have triggered better ratings? Nothing against Mandy herself, she seems fun as an actress. But I am curious about how TV producers minds work. Am I willing to give this drama a try? Probably. It's Jasper! And he's going to be well-dressed...and playing a conventional businessman role?!
We'll see how we go! What do you guys think of this pairing?
Hi Jen! I'm not sure too if I will see this drama or not. I think Mandy Wei is pretty but unfortunately, I ship Puff and Jasper soooooooo hard..lol. To tell you the truth, I feel disappoint that Jasper said he likes girl with long hair since it means maybe Puff is not his type..TT However, I try to accept that they can be just good friend and I hope at least they can have drama together again :) I also heard that now Puff has new project with Lego Li but I wonder why I cannot see any photos of Puff and Lego in news or any media...maybe they keep the project as secret? If you have any news about Puff's new project with Lego, please share :)

I really, really, really love the Puff-Jasper pairing, but I also knew the day would come when they were paired with other people for dramas, so I guess I have accepted that because I want to continue supporting them on their new projects. While I'm not totally sure yet about this Mandy-Jasper pairing, I'm now really looking forward to the new drama since Jasper liked + reposted my photo (so I'm reminded of this drama everytime I hop onto Instagram. Jasper bought me out with a simple 'like'...I'm so weak to his charm :D). I also think the advertising looks kind of interesting. I wouldn't worry about what Jasper said about hair by the way. It sounds like he was joking around with Mandy Wei, as well as the reporters. Also it's probablly alluding to the fact that Mandy Wei got hair extentions for the role - she prefers short hair herself and was sporting short locks just a few weeks ago....As for the Puff and Lego rumours, I haven't heard anything yet sorry! I've not watched anything with Lego Li, so I couldn't say whether or not I'm a fan of his or would feel any more excited about him being paired up with Puff, but if anything pops up about Puff's next project, I would definately let you know here :)

I agreed with you that one day Puff and Jasper need to be paired with other people...they cannot be paired in every drama since the audience will get bored ^^; I hope at least they will have project together again...at least CF? I don't know Mandy Wei before but after I saw press conference clip, I found that she is pretty and OK that she will be Jasper's new female leading. By the way, have you watched Jasper's teaser of When I See You again yet? He so handsome so I decided to give a try for this dramas and after watching it, will discuss with you here if you don't mind ;)
DeleteFor Puff and Lego Li's project, actually I don't know anything much too but I found that Puff posted some video on her IG and in the video she was filming with one guy, running and holding hand together and some comments said that the guy is Lego Li so I followed his IG and found her posted same photo with Puff's IG. I also don't know Lego Li before but I also give a try for him and Puff's project, will let you know if I find more info about this too :D
Oooh thanks for your news about Puff! I'll try and keep an eye out on any up coming news about that too and update you if I hear anymore! As a Jasper fan, I guess I consider myself pretty lucky too!...In the future, I hope to be able to attend a Morning Call concert (Jasper's band is one of my favourite Electronica bands!) and maybe to get a polaroid of Jasper! I forgot to bring my polaroid camera last time, but I know when he does fan meets, sometimes the fans call his name and he's nice enough to pose for a few photos :D
DeleteI definately hope Puff and Jasper will work together again, even if it's just a commercial or movie! Sadly, I doubt they'll be paired for another drama, due to all the stars avaliable in Taiwan. But it makes me happy to know that Puff and Jasper still hang out in real life with the Pleasantly Surprised crew (on Instagram, he left a message on the last Pleasantly Surprised gathering to say how disappointing it was that he missed out on it because of filming). I think that's a cheerful thought...and it's a lot better than many other co-stars. They were both pretty close at the fan meet, lots of teasing and talking to each other, so I think they'll always appreciate their friendship.
I don't know too much about Mandy Wei either, except that I just never got into most of her past leading dramas and she does quite a bit of lingerie modelling...Apparently she's been things I've watched like Love, Now and ToGetHer, but she might have just had small roles. I couldn't get into "Say Again Yes I do," but she seems to look alright with Jasper, so I'll give it a go. Also I saw that teaser for When I See You Again and...THAT TEASER FOR JASPER IS AMAZING! Thanks Jen ;) I just got update about Puff and Lego Li (or Lee...not sure how to spell his name actually) It's just a short drama and the title is "我是真的付出我的愛" and Puff will go to mainland to film drama title "蜀山战纪" maybe around 1 month...not sure about how long Puff will go since I don't know Mandarin and used Google to translate it...I'm glad that Puff will have new project in mainland and since this is Wuxia drama so feel excited to see Puff's costume. By the way, Puff and Jasper seem to have busy schedule now so it means they cannot hang out together with Pleasantly Surprised gang...at least I hope Jasper will miss Puff a little bit...sorry Jen if I ship them too hard...lol ^^

Let's talk about Mandy Wei a little more. Since I don't know her before so after I heard that she will be Jasper's new female lead, I search Google to know about her and I found she got sexy image! I was a little bit shocked since her photos are too sexy for me...hahaha so at first, it's hard for me to accept her since I think Jasper is suite with a lively girl like Puff but this is because I'm biased actually ^^; However, like I told you, I will give this drama a try since and will discuss with you here :) It's nice to talk to you Jane. I try to tell my friends to watch Pleasantly Surprised but no one watch since they love to watch K-Dramas more so I'm happy to talk with you too. See you again soon ;)

Oooh, thanks for the updates and sorry for the late reply...I've been working on a lot of the Pleasantly Surprised SPOP translations - you can find them on the side tab! Haha, I'm sure Puff and the crew will catch up in their own times... I feel like they're good friends and will definately run in the same circles for work! They've been managing to catch up for 6 months despite busy schedules, which I think is awesome...it's definately far better than a lot of drama crews!

I didn't get the chance to post about it, but they recently performed at Grasslands musical festival at Taiwan, a sort of university music festival....but I couldn't have made it on such short notice. But I'll definately let you know if Jasper has any up-coming fan meets or music festivals. I need to get a bit more organised, but I'll definately post more about it :)
Hahaha, yeah I was kind of surprised about Mandy Wei also! It's not often that they let a lingerie model play the main character in dramas (I mean just look at Lene Lai! She's always the second girl or the bad girl)...but I guess she must be going ok as an actress. I prefer Jasper and Puff together too...I'm glad I'm not the only one! Puff is such a fun, lively and down to earth kinda girl and they had so much fun on Pleasantly! Oh, I hope your friends will watch Pleasantly Surprised too! My friends are the same...they only like K-Dramas...While I do like K-Dramas, I've just been a Taiwanese-drama watching mode for the past two years...I think they show emotions and passion a lot better in Taiwanese shows! Even though during her debut days, Mandy Wei used to go the sexy route, she's been slowly stopping that for the recent years and she's pretty.
DeleteTruthfully, I'm not crazy about Puff, I do like her in Pleasantly Surprised and Just You but I'm turned off by some of her individual fans (those who ship her with Heechul, Aaron and brings down Jasper / bragging her as the goddess but bringing down Jasper / because they want Puff to pair up with Jasper so they photoshop Jasper's partner face with Puff's / or bringing down Tia Lee). I like her personality but some of her fans can be as extreme as Aaron's fans, probably because their target audience are more of the younger demographic.
So personally, I don't want to see Jasper paired up with her again for now (maybe a few years later when they've taken other dramas). But that's just me, I'm Jasper's individual fan so I accept whoever he gets paired up with, I'm just hoping that his partner won't have that many unpleasant fans like hers. Of course she have nice fans but the portion of unpleasant fans is pretty high (only talking about the taiwanese and chinese fans, international fans are more laid back usually).
Even in Pleasantly Surprised, I feel they're more like friends than lovers, because Jolin Chien's character actually fits her better in the second half of the story.
Don't get me wrong, I like Puff but I hope Jasper can be paired up with a celeb with less aggressive fans. I feel kinda sick of seeing her Taiwanese fans saying in LIVE discussion forums, "Jasper must die" because he got intimate scenes with her, even though they're saying it in a joking manner but when I see that for so many weeks consecutively, I really want to yell, "she's also lucky to get intimate scenes with Jasper!" This is just me ranting.
This may be an unpopular opinion but yeah.... I guess fandom really matters because it affects my feelings about that celeb. So far, Mandy's Taiwanese fandom have been pretty laid back, much like most of Jasper's fans.

I must confess that I was quite worry about Puff and Jasper when I saw this BTS since I don't understand Mandarin and they were like awkward to each other at first so I think they may not as close as when they filmed Pleasantly Surprised together but after I read your translation, I'm quite sure that they are still good friend ^^

Actually, I had a plan to go to visit Taiwan next year but It's still be uncertain plan but if I'm lucky enough, I wish that Moring Call will hold some concert or showcase when I go but if not, I hope you will have a chance to go and share here. About Mandy Wei, yeah I was bit shock about her sexy image at first but I didn't anti her ;) (I was also surprised too when I found that Lene Lai also has sexy image). Even thought I prefer Puff and Jasper together but I will try to watch this drama first and if Mandy can express the character well, I may ship her and Jasper "on screen" and maybe become her fan :) but off screen, off course, still Puff and Jasper only ;) By the way, I can made one of my friend watched Pleasantly Surprised now but she watched until ep 13 only and she said that the story is toooo slow so she gave up....so sad TT (but she still likes Jasper and followed him on IG) Anyway,it's OK since I still can talk with you here...hehe ^^ I'm also on Soompi but recently I haven't go there much but will come back again after I begin to watch When I See You Again. ReplyDeleteAbout Mandy Wei, I'm sorry if I made you feel inconvenience about my words but please don't get me wrong, I didn't anti or dislike her...I feel so-so when I saw her picture with Jasper but after I saw Press Conference clip, I found that she's pretty too. I was shocked because I don't get used to female lead who has sexy image before and Jasper's personality is quite shy towards a girl ^^; Also I still stick to Ah Jie and Kai Qi Couple so it's hard for me to accept new pairing at first but after I saw teaser and read the synopsis, I decided to give this drama a try. I think Jasper's character and Mandy's chararcter are interesting and if Mandy can do her job well, I may become her fan (like Lene Lai, I was shock too when I found she has sexy image but since I like Le Xuan character so I found Lene is pretty and become to like her too ;) )
I understand that some of Puff's fans strongly ship Puff with male from their favorite programme. I also strongly ship Puff and Jasper but I don't have problem with Aaron and Heechul. I think some comment like "Please marry Aaron, Heechul or Jasper for real" may made Puff feel uncomfortable so I avoid to comment like that too just indirectly commented that "Please have another drama with Jasper" sometime. I also found that some of her fan or Jasper fan commented on photo of Puff and Lego that "Jasper is better" some thing like that so I think every idol has this kind of fanclub but I hope they will comment in polite way and do not bash other actor or actress ^^;
