Pleasantly Surprised 喜歡·一個人 Episode 14 Summary & Comments

I love this drama...I really do. 

Once again, I have to say I don't think I've watched a drama before in my long years of drama-watching where the story has had such a quick and reasonable pace (Pleasantly Surprised is not 10 episodes of "Should I telll her I was responsible for [secret/confession/horrible truth]?"...it's more like 2 episodes of angst and then BAM! Here's the problem, now we work on how to fix it) and where all the characters were so loveable and natural (aside from normal exaggerated comical events for laughs). 

I mean, I've loved most of the drama characters I've seen on screen before...but I have seen a lot of held back tenderness in relationships and a lot of non-communication and crying before. But Pleasantly Surprised has lifted the game big time! Anyway, here's onto a wayward summary + commentary on Episode 14...

*** Before I begin, did anyone else notice that Ah Jie had better pants this week??? Solid colours, NO floral pattern!!! Amazing. I hope it stays this way***

(***SPOILER alerts**** for those who haven't started the series or aren't up to episodes 14)...

Ok, so the episode starts off sort of glum given that Kai Qi is still pretty mad at Ah Jie and everyone at Figuro Cusine is giving him crap as they think he's a heartless dude who goes around and toys with people's hearts. Only Le Xuan (Or Flower Vase....I'm going to call her that as I think it's a cute nickname. In Chinese the meaning of such a nickname = pretty but useless. Though I just associate it with the start of the series and her pretty face :D) is nice to Ah Jie. Here, I liked Flower Vase. It may seem like she would be nice to Ah Jie as she liked him previously. But she also worries about the tense state of Kai Qi and Ah Jie. I also point out, it would be the perfect time to scheme...but she doesn't, which is rare in a drama for someone that is meant to be the rival character. It's so refreshing once again to have characters with many dimensions...I really hope she finds love with the Head Chef!

The evil brother, however, is a different story. So self-pitying and vengeful. He comes to visit at the start of the episode, being rude to Ah Jie, revealing his secret as son of the owners at Figuro and getting to Kai Qi. I thought his visit would actually back up Ah Jie's explaination to her (that he needed to leave after a month because he was responsible for the brother's ingured arm), but the whole affair just makes her angry at both brothers. It makes sense in hindsight why she's angry - she doesn't realise how bitter and angry the brother is so she thinks Ah Jie is making a big deal out of nothing and running away from being guilty rather than fixing the problem. After the visit, Ah Jie stands his ground with the evil bro by declaring to his parents that he'll stay. The thing I loved about this scene = when the bro reveals that he's staying because of Kai Qi, both parents are quite pleased. They may have the monies but they definately are not snobby about Ah Jie dating their ex-housekeeper's kid, which is another stereotypical plot-device we don't have to sweat about!!! I mean, they were nice to Kai Qi's mum to begin with, but you never know with drama parents. So glad this looks good. (I think my worries were triggered by the father -he's Annie Chen's dad in love around...and look what he did there...haha.)

Ah Jie also painfully tries to get Kai Qi to talk to him and takes her out on a drive to try to sort things out (as you see in the title pic above). I'm actually amazed they do talk. It doesn't immediately resolve the issue, but it does lead to that!!! If you're an avid drama fan, you'll also have sat through dramas where no one talks and misunderstanding grow. So I liked that they aired out the issues...you can definately see thought has been put into story + character development here. 

When they get back to Figuro, Ah Jie gets called into the police station as his car has been in an accident in the morning. Kai Qi realises that Ah Jie was with him in the morning and took a taxi to work, so couldn't have been in the accident and pieces everything together to understand that the older bro has a drinking problem which Ah Jie has taken the fall for in his adult life since the arm-injuring incident. Here I was like, "Thank you script-writers for not dragging this till the last episode!!! Kai Qi, you're so smart and observant!!!" Misunderstanding = cleared. Lovers, back on track. 

Family drama = the truth comes out at the hospital (Again, these script-writers making the plot move!!!) and the brother explodes about how his parents love Ah Jie, how he's a disappointment and it's all Ah Jie's fault, illiciting a slap from his father and tears from his mother. Ah Jie sits miserably at the park alone, when Kai Qi comes to comfort him. Prepare yourself for some sweet lovin' again...

I really liked this scene in the park because it's Kai Qi, really going out of her way to find him and show her tender side. My first thought was...how did she know he was in the park?! But it's the park next to their flat.

This next scene probably had fan girls fainting a little....

I love how Kai Qi found it awkward, yet wanted him to lay there. She didn't know where to put her hand though, but it turned into this...

Sweet moments seem to come in double doses, so of course, after they have a talk about Ah Jie's tough day and his decision to stay in Taiwan for his own sake, not because he owes his bro...Ah Jie asks Kai Qi to give him strength. Kai Qi lets him know that when she tasted Louis' food she use to say the same thing. Here, Ah Jie, says that they give each other strength...which really seems to come back to how great this series is...is not just about boy-protects-girl. The girl is pretty kick-ass so the boy needs her help too. Also, as a guy, Ah Jie doesn't have that "大男人主义者" macho-man/boss attitude. They rely on each other alot and support each other with their strengths, the way you should in a healthy relationship.

Ah Jie tends to get his "strength: in this form though...

Heh, yep, still keeping this kiss count going. Kai Qi's expressions are so cute when she's startled. 

Ah Jie is all up for teasing Kai Qi while stealing kisses...

Kai Qi then goes to visit Ah Jie's brother with some sunflowers (yeah, I knew I picked sunflowers on my blog header for a reason!) But it doesn't turn out well, and he smashes the vase containing the flowers on the ground. She can't stop thinking about the incident which is when she encounters Hao Wei again. He's at the restaurant to do some interviewing with Head chef and Flower Vase, his sister. Hahaha, I love the way Head Chef is obviously gawking at Flower Vase. So obvious that even Hao Wei is picking up on it :D

I totally take back what I say about Hao Wei. Although he seems a little bitter when Kai Qi says she's made up with Ah Jie, he also happens to be a good friend giving her advice as to how to be there for Ah Jie...which gives Kai Qi the idea to take him to one of those baseball batting place (think Love Around again). Which leads to another cute baseball scene...the episode ends here, with the last scene where Kai Qi feeling feeling about the visit in the hospital realising that the brother smashed the vase with his so-called "injured" arm. Looks like more family drama next week... One of the viewers on Viki said that the drama looks more intense from here...what you guys think?

Pleasantly Surprised 喜歡·一個人 Episode 13 Behind the Scenes Translations

This Episode is behind the scenes of Kai Qi and Ah Jie's date and Jasper's birthday cake ceremony. Part way through it, so please make sure to check back again :)

1. Filming Ah Jie's confession scene - Chasing the Bus

The Camera is just filming the bus rolling along pretty slowly. Then the director shouts...

Director: Ah Jie come out! Ah Jie come out!

Jasper runs out from the side to show he's chasing the bus. They show the filming of this for a few minutes...zooming in on Jasper reaching the bus door and knocking on it.

Director: Stop...Come now...Ah Jie, rest for a moment. We're about to go back to the start to do it again once more.

Jasper jogs off to the side and slows down.

-Cuts to the director instructing Jasper- 

Director: It's not still, "Kai Qi, wait for me, Kai Qi wait for me" (The Director imitates AJ's moves)

Director: It's not like that

Director: So you're (doing) that type (of running)...

Here the director demonstrates what he wants by doing a sort of terminator style of running with sharp, blade like arms at the side, looking fast and determined
[Red caption: Serious]

Director: Hand-blade-fast-running ---haha, the director calls it what I call it. Hand-blades!----
Jasper: So just then, I was just looking around a bit (too much), right?
Director, chuckling [Red, white and yellow caption]: Just then, it felt like the running was very difficult for you...----Because the scene is meant to be light-hearted, and Ah Jie is meant to be so in love that it doesn't bother him that he's chasing a bus---
Jasper: Not difficult!
Director, still chuckling [White and purple caption]: (You need to) Run very determinedly...(He shows the kind of running he wants by moving his arms)
Jasper, thoughtfully: Ok
Director: A bit more silly, but it doesn't matter
Director: Acting (a bit) like a cartoon also doesn't matter
Director: Do you know what I mean?
Jasper: Yup, I know
Director: (We're) just seeing you (running) exactly the same as a hero would...
The Director puts on his 'determined' face and his terminator arms and shows Jasper what he means again.
-Cuts to Jasper filming the bus-chasing scene again-
Jasper is running looking mighty determined and running hardcore

Jasper starts talking to the camera about his worries from running out behind the bus.
Jasper voice-over on that scene: Actually, I didn't realise what kind of condition I was in...---Poor Jasper is wiping off sweat---
Jasper [Blue and red caption]: Because just then, I felt, "How come there is more of a late "Q"?? ---He means "cue," but says it quickly, so they make like of it by spelling it as a "Q"---
Jasper: And then...(Oh i mean) Q...(Someone behind the camera corrects him and Jasper grins as he says it again)..."Cue"...So I kept running, saying "Should I come out yet?" "Should I come out yet?" "How come there's still no voice (of the director's urging me to come out)?"
Jasper: Furthermore, my feet just slipped, having stepped into a puddle like this...
Jasper does a comical falling back movement, arms flailling, laughing.
-Cuts to Jasper running and it shows the number of crew people who have to run along behind him to pass on the director's messages-
[Black caption pointing to crew members: Hard-working filming crew members also have to run along (following him)]
-Cuts to Jasper talking to the camera again-
Jasper: Actually, after I entered into society... ---This is a very old-fashioned Asian way of saying a person is entering "the real working world"---
Jasper, grinning as if it's a funny thing to say: ...Coming into society...

Jasper: ...Afterwards...after "growing up," I still feel very much nostalgic about the past, in senior school, those days when I had to catch a bus to get to school...
Jasper [Light pink and white caption]: I feel it was very romantic!!

Jasper: Maybe it's just that you will see a girl that you like...And then she's getting this (timing) bus ride...And then (you note) it's this hour and this minute...like that...I felt that it was very, very fun. There was just a type of innocent love feeling.

Jasper laughs ---Oh my, Jasper, you're a romantic!---

Jasper: After graduating from senior school, I did think, I want to wear my old senior school uniform again, and then really early in the morning...
Jasper starts laughing really sheepishly

2. Filming Ah Jie and Kai Qi's Oceanarium date

Puff: It's so cute!
Jasper to Puff: My dream when I was little was to be able to swim together with dolphin or whale types...and with turtles.

Puff [Red caption]: Just hugging onto it
Jasper starts laughing: Yeah, hugging onto it!

Puff is holding her arms out and moving her body as if hanging onto a dolphin. Jasper is laughing.
Camera person: Isn't that swimming together with it?
Puff: No...that is...right
Puff: That is, we're holding onto it's body and it's just swimming (on our behalf)
Jasper, supporting Puff's words to camera person: ...So swimming together!

Puff: In what way should I interact with it?
Oceanarium staff, talking on a phone: Wait a moment
Puff: It should need some type of whistle or hand signal, for example

Jasper: He's interacting with it right now, isn't he?
[Blue caption around Jasper: Cold, cold, cold]

Ah, one of my favourite Behind the Scenes! I can't believe I never translated this one. But I'm going to do it now...so if you're a fan of Pleasantly Surprised, you'll want to watch this one. It's got all the playfulness and kissing scenes to set a fan girl's heart on fire.

Puff, as KQ: How is it, eh? Don't you run away!

Director: It's too fast. You, don't run so fast (said to Jasper)

Jasper: I'd rather take it off

Puff comes over and looks like she's going to rub his clothes into his body (or take them off...? haha)

Jasper: It's really very numbing
Puff: I'm quickly heating to death ------It was Summer when this was shot, so it would have been very hot------

Jasper is like. "Really" and he comes over to "hug" Puff with his wet body. Only he doesn't really do it because they're still filming. Puff is laughing and swotting him away.
[Green caption on Puff: Always on the side saying sarcastic words]
-----Hahahaha, Puff is teasing and keeps on making light of the fact that Jasper is getting sprayed continuously!----
Puff stretches and says casually: I'm very hot
She walks away.

Puff turns around to see what the reply is.
Female crew member: (You) Still can't do it just yet...
Male crew member mutters something.

Jasper, quietly to the camera: Do you hear that?
Jasper [Pink caption]: When this bit is finished, then (I) can do it!
Male crew member: There's still one more bit
Male crew member leans in to say something to Jasper.

Jasper brushes his hair casually as the crew member leaves.
Puff who has seen all this says: What? What? What?
Jasper is just grinning at the camera. Well, kind of, through his face mask.

As soon as the director has cut the scene, Jasper rushes to the hose to get his revenge

Director: Cut it more tighter together...

Puff is laughing too as she walks away

Jasper: ...But she's too much of a fraudster. She first turned down the water. (Here, he laughsas if he's got to admit that she's pretty damn smart ---Haha, go Puff!---...But he still gets her...) And then she gave a robotic laugh as she hid.

Jasper: [Pink and white caption]: So I just grabbed her completely and didn't let go... -----haha, Jasper this almost sounds...romantic-----
-Cuts to Puff laughing robotically and Jasper finally getting his revenge-

Puff is laughing really loudly turning back to face Jasper, who is off-screen: Hahaha Hahaha

Jasper runs up and hugs her tightly from behind, thereby rubbing his wet clothes against her body!
Puff who doesn't expect this gives out a drawn out yell....Ahhhhhhhh!!!!

2. The Ah Jie confession and kissing against the car

Jasper, as AJ: Telling you to go find him...

Jasper, as AJ: I've gotten more crazy

Puff, as KQ: What are you even talking about?

Jasper reaches quickly for Puff's head and draws her towards himself, and their lips are touching, poised to make out, but they're in a kinda awkward position for making out (as their characters of course!)

Director: Stop!

Crew member: Is it ok?

[Purple caption]: How can you kiss?!

Jasper is sheepishly smiling

Director: Ok, it's (the scene) has passed

Jasper breaks into a wider grin knowing the scene is ok and Puff hits him with balloons for grabbing her so suddenly and awkwardly.

Jasper to Puff, shielding away from her hitting [Blue caption, pink caption]: I really didn't do it on purpose, I really didn't do it on purpose!

-Cuts to Puff and Jasper standing facing towards the camera talking about the scene-

Puff to Jasper: Passionately kissing...are you embarrassed?

Jasper is pressing his lips together whilst Puff is speaking and he turns to look at Puff. They look at each other paused for a moment with faint smiles, Jasper speechless. Then he turns towards the camera.

Jasper: Having already previously been doing many things, doesn't matter if it's SPOP, or earlier, some part (of advertising) towards the drama, I think the main guy really does have to take a bit more initiative. [Yellow, White and Red captions]: Today, I decided to go all out. So I feel today I should be comparatively...

He leans towards Puff looking at her with a slight smirk, as if hinting to her, while Puff is looking up straight ahead, smiling and trying to avoid looking at him. 

Jasper: ...comparatively taking a bit more initiative, riiight? ---haha because Puff always complains that Jasper doesn't take the manly romantic lead as drama actors often do---

Puff, giving him a bit of credit: Yes, ok, compared to the past, (you're showing) a bit more initiative.

Jasper starts doing peace signs to the camera as if to say, "I've conquered!"
[Red caption on Jasper: Very happy]

Puff: Because, truthfully speaking, filming this kind of drama, you really can't have the girl taking initiative.
Puff is making a giant cross sign with her arms, while Jasper is making little peace signs around her face from behind her. Cute!

Puff: The girl taking initiative is not correct at all! The guy just has to MAN-up.
Puff turns to Jasper grinning as she's saying this.
Jasper, makes a face: Right
-Cuts to Jasper and Puff standing against the car where their characters make-out for the first time-
Jasper has his hand on Puff's shoulder. Puff is trying to stop laughing.

Female Film Crew member: Come now. Let's try for real!
Both Jasper and Puff burst out laughing, looking nervous.

Director: Come on, come on, come on. Prepare
[Pink caption bubbles around Jasper and Puff: Shy, shy, shy]

Jasper takes his hand off from Puff's shoulder and is hitting his leg from laughing (A technique he has for getting over his nervous laughter.)
But then he gets serious abruptly and places his hand behind Puff's neck and draws her in leaning close.

But Puff still hasn't gotten in character yet and seems surprised by Jasper's sudden form and she's laughing and hitting Jasper lightly on the chest and then fanning her heated face. Which makes Jasper start laughing again.

-Cuts to Jasper and Puff filming the scene. Making out as their characters-

Their lips are really going for it.

Director: Stop! Ok

Puff and Jasper draw apart and then really move away from each other. -------Hahaha, probably really awkward filming one of these scenes in real life -------
Director: Cut!
-Cuts to Jasper walking quickly-
[Red caption: In the middle of viciously "walking"]
Camera person to Jasper: Where are you going?!
Jasper doesn't answer. He's only smiling and walking away quickly. Then you hear his voice...
Jasper: Just exercising a bit
Crew person to Puff and Jasper: Is it really this serious?!
Puff: No, Because...When I was reading the script, I thought it was only like this way. (Puff is making her two hands "kiss," but it's more like a peck.)
Puff: And then, it's just like, I kick him and that's the end.
Puff [Green caption, pink caption]: So I didn't think I'd need to enjoy this piece...

Puff: So it was too sudden. I was a bit...(Puff is moving her hands nervously ----awww even she gets nervous at the thought of kissing Jasper. Hahaha----) I hadn't thought thoroughly enough about how I was going to do it. I also didn't know how I was going to show it. So I was a bit nervous.
Puff folds her arms across her chest and sways from side to side. From beside the screen comes Jasper's voice. Seems like he's come back from his walk. Camera crosses over to Jasper as he talks.
Jasper: But I also feel (like it's best to be like) "don't think about it" yeah? Because thinking about it will, in reverse, make you even more nervous. (Jasper laughs)

Camera person to Jasper: So just then you must have thought too much about it so you needed to "viciously walk"?
Jasper, shaking his head with a look of terror: No. Just then, I didn't think of anything.
Jasper, closing his eyes and shaking his head like a kid: Not thinking, not thinking, not thinking
Jasper: Just kiss, it'll be right (He means "just do it, it'll be the right move)
Jasper: The result is after we finish kissing is just...
Jasper fakes a shiver and jumps up and down on the spot, making a brrrrrrrgh sound. Like being electricuted...as you can see from the green and white lightening bolt they added around him.
Jasper is grinning and Puff is laughing in the background.
-Cuts to more of the filming of Puff and Jasper making out as as their characters-

Jasper is holding Puff's face and kissing.
Director: And stop!

Jasper draws away slowly eyes still closed, hand still on Puff's chin. But he suddenly drops his hand and leaves to go on his brisk walk to cool off. Puff starts laughing.
[Pink and purple bubble caption: Runs away]
Puff laughs so much she flops over.

Camera person: What is he up to again?!
-Cuts to a different angle of filming the kiss. This one is front on to Puff, so you can see her kissing Jasper back. Jasper's hand just under her neck-

Director: And stop! Ok

Jasper just lets go and drifts away as if in a daze. Puff opens her eyes and grins to the camera. Jasper starts walking slowly, taking the path that leads down to the sea.
[Purple and white caption on Jasper: Just where are you going?]

-Cuts to Jasper coming back up from the path, one hand up in front of him, the other out in front. He looks like a Buddhist monk-
[Red caption: This way are you more at peace?]
Camera person to Jasper: What exactly is up with you?
-Cuts to Puff  sitting down behind Jasper on the concrete bench after filming-
Camera person: Did you enjoy it?
Puff: Should say that we're (now) paying more atttention to one another
Jasper, adding in quickly: ...In our drama performance!
Jasper is smiling cheekily, holding back laugher and looking at someone behind the camera filming them. Seems like that someone might have been teasing them about being together...because Jasper is grinning and pointing to them as if to say, "You thought you had us!"
Puff: Right. And then, also his (understanding of) angle. Because, as you know, the angle, if it's not shot well, it'll look very bad as a result. So I'm very careful to keep my double chin down.
Jasper: And how did this come about? Today she already told me...

Jasper [Blue and white caption]: If the kissing scene is shot in a way that doesn't look good, you're going to be dead for sure (Puff's death threat to Jasper.)
Puff is grinning innocently.

Puff: Correct. He would be dead for sure.
Jasper is laughing and winking.

3. Filming of the Water Fountain Kiss Scene

Puff, as KQ: What are you doing?!
Jasper, as AJ, is lifting Puff, as KQ, up from her platform and holding her over the water in a teasing manner.
Director: Stop!
Crew Member: Is it ok?

Director: Good
Meanwhile, Jasper who is holding Puff has spun her in a full circle over the water.
Puff to Jasper: Can you put me down now?

Jasper, jokingly: Put you down?
He lowers her a little so that she's closer to the water causing Puff to scream. Jasper is laughing deviously.
[Yellow bubble: Aghhh!]
Puff: I screamed very loudly...

She starts hitting Jasper for pretending to put her down into the water.
Jasper: Hey, it was you, yourself, that told me to put you down!
Puff: No, I didn't mean...
She's laughing though
-Cuts to Jasper and Puff standing on the little island in the middle of the water fountain with Jasper, as AJ going in to kiss Puff, as KQ-
Director: 3,2...

Jasper has his hands on Puff's shoulder. When he's cued in to kiss her, he moves his hand up to her neck. They kiss as their characters for a bit.
Director: Stop
Crew member: Is it ok?
Director: It's (the scene has) passed

Jasper [Blue and red caption]: No where to escape...(He means he can't take his usual post-kiss walk! Haha)
-Cuts to Puff and Jasper sitting down, side to side, facing the camera during a break-

Jasper: I have brought underwear. I have brought it alllll. I have prepared well for it. After passing through yesterday's lesson (with the scene where Puff sprays him with the hose)...
Puff: After the "paper" underwear incident -----In case you're feeling alarmed, in Asia, especially in Japan and Taiwan, there's disposable paper undies that you can buy. And Puff is joking that that's what Jasper wore after the water hose scene where he had to get wet----
Puff is laughing really loudly and Jasper is like, "Hey!"
Camera person to Jasper:...So you didn't bring underwear yesterday?

Puff [Yellow, White and Blue caption]: He wore paper underwear home!
Puff covers her mouth to laugh again, while Jasper is making a face.
-Cuts to the filming of Puff and Jasper making out before the water fountain sprays them-
Director: ...And 2...

The water in the fountain has been turned on and starts to rise to spray them for the wet kiss scene.

They're just standing there making out as their characters, waiting for the water to get to them.
[Red caption: Bloopers/ Laughing sequence]

Director: Stop!
The edge of the water spraying out has hit them and after the cut, Puff is laughing really loudly out of shock from how much water is being sprayed onto her. Jasper is running away.
-Cuts to the second take of this water fountain kiss scene-
Jasper is walking Puff backwards, back under the spraying fountain and fake screaming from the cold, gushing water.
Jasper [Red and blue caption]: Ahhhhh!!!! So very cold!!!
[Aqua caption: Water spraying water fountain]
Director: Move out a little bit more ------Poor Jasper and Puff are super wet, and Jasper is squinting to look up at the director to see what he wants---
They shuffle a little to find the right spot and then get into making out position again.

Film crew: 5,4,3,2...

They start making out as their characters and Puff is trying to find where to put her arms in response to Jasper's body.

Film crew: Move around a bit. Turn around a little bit.
So they make out and move their bodies around a bit to make it look more intense?

[Yellow caption in blue thinking bubble caption coming from Jasper: Where is the mouth?!] ----He can't see under the strong flow of water that is gushing down on them both-----
Film crew: Turn back around again

[Red caption: Bloopers/ laughing sequence]

Puff and Jasper are turning around and then they part for the moment and start laughing pretty hard. Puff is leaning on Jasper's shoulder from laughing so much.
Director: Stop!
They both break away laughing and wiping water away from their faces and dripping hairs. They move out from under the water to take a break.
Director: Ok,ok,ok...
-Cuts to a dripping wet Puff talking directly to the camera-
Puff: Because I originally wanted to say that it's just a little bit of water spraying around us. But no.
Puff is making water fountain gestures with one arm
Puff [White and Yellow caption]: This is the whole pillar of water (spraying) towards (us from) the upwards direction...
Jasper comes up from behind to join Puff in talking to the camera. They're both drying themselves off with towels.
Puff: No...none at all...
Jasper, laughing: Just then I literally had to first scoop all my wet hair up to one side to be able to kiss
-Cuts to Puff and Jasper climbing back onto their little island in the pool of water to discuss doing the wet kiss scene take two-
[Pink and white caption pointing to Jasper: Pay attention to this]

Puff uses her hand to divert some of the strong upward gushing water fountain so that it sprays into Jasper's face. He's surprised and laughs and Puff laughing and making an "I really didn't mean to do it gesture!"
-Cuts to Jasper doing the same thing to Puffing in revenge-

[Pink caption pointing to Jasper: Revenging]
Puff does it back to Jasper again. Twice!
Crew member talking: Doesn't matter. Since we're all tired.
Female crew member: Comes on, you two
Jasper is laughing and wiping water out from his face.
Puff talking to a crew member: This side? Location?
-Cuts to Puff and Jasper drying off some more before doing the wet kiss scene take two-
Puff: Very disgusting feeling
Puff is shuffling up and down
Camera person: What's wrong?
Puff is kicking off her wet shoes.
Puff: Very disgusting feeling
Puff: I don't like the bottom of my feet to feel so wet. Also that kind of being wrapped inside (the shoe) type of feeling.
Puff: ...Just like what he's wearing. Stuffy, I just feel the inside is...
Puff laughs a little. Jasper steps back into the pool of water.

Jasper: Very well. Then (standing) here is just good.
Jasper standing there, grinning: This way it's not disgusting right? (Because all his feet are wet, and not just the bottoms!)
[Yellow caption on Jasper's feet: Very open-minded, Jasper!]
-Cuts to the filming of the actual fountain kissing scene-

We see the two actors making out as their characters. They're going for it...then...

[Yellow and red caption: Choking]
Puff is choking from the water flowing down from above
Director: Another one (another take)
Puff, explaining to the director with an apologetic laugh: I was choking!
You see Jasper wiping hair and water from face and Puff is standing there shivering while waiting for the set up for another take. She's mouthing something like "No more. Not in the cold!"
-Cuts to Jasper and Puff getting down from the little island in the pool of water-
------I think they stopped rolling and didn't need to shoot anymore, but they didn't tell Puff and Jasper for awhile, both who were looking forward to the end of the shoot and getting warm again!---
Jasper: No more?
Jasper: From early on, you already stopped? What else are you guys doing?!
Puff [White and blue caption]: Why didn't you say so?!

Director: Hurry on over
-Cuts to Puff talking to the camera-

Puff: It had that water fountain, that kind of directly-gushing-down-and-then-hitting-the-top-of-one's head kind of feeling

-Cuts to Jasper talking to the camera-

Jasper: The two of us were exactly like drowned rats
Jasper: Just the two of us on top of a little island
Jasper: It had a kind of depending-on-each-other-for-survival type of feeling

3. Filming Zi Jie (Ah Jie) and Zi Xiang's brotherly argument
Vic, as Zi Xiang: Ever since I saved that show-off little brother of mine...my dream has been eliminated!
Jasper is grabbing Vic by the shoulders and you can hear Jasper do a commentary over the scene, leading into a camera interview.
Jasper: We just...er...we, brothers finally had a showdown
-Cuts to Jasper and Vic talking to the camera-

Jasper [White, purple and blue caption]: This should also be, within Pleasantly Surprised, the most emotionally...
Vic [Red, Yellow and White caption]: Bold and unrestrained, the most intense
-Cuts to director instructing both Vic and Jasper about how the scene should play out-
Director to Vic: He's venting out
Director turns to Jasper: He also wants to vent out
Director to Vic and Jasper: He...since he's already like this...(turns to Jasper) He also starts to want to come out (with his anger)
Director takes Jasper's part and suddenly lunges at Vic, shaking him with his hands on both shoulders.
Director, as Ah Jie, screaming passionately: I don't want to keep being responsible for your life!
He's shaking Vic quite violently...and Vic is trying not to laugh.

Director to Jasper: You understand?
-Cuts to Director still instructing Jasper-
Director: When he's excitedly (angrily) talking about you, (Turns to Vic) you already might not have the means to face him directly. (Turns to Jasper) You're certainly not going to stupidly let him manipulate you. You don't have the means to face him. You're already sulking on this side by yourself. Good? Good? Now it's like this...
Director, as Zi Xiang: Whatever issues can be spoken about out in the open, right?
Director to Vic: Do you understand my meaning? How do you have the pride to face him?
-Cuts to Vic and Jasper talking to the camera-
Jasper: Speaking in a really excited (angered) manner, I feel this is extremely challenging. For me, myself, that is.
-Cuts to the filming of the angry confrontation scene take 1-

Jasper, as AJ: I don't want to keep being responsible for your life
He's shaking Vic, as Zi Xiang, and shouting. But then he's lost his lines. They're both glaring listlessly at each other, but it seems that it's probably Jasper's line again....but he doesn't know it.
A crow flies across the screen [White caption on Jasper: ??]

Jasper: I've forgotten...
Director: Stop. Doesn't matter. Don't worry about it
-Cuts to the filming of the angry confrontation scene take 2-
Jasper, as AJ: I don't want to keep being responsible for your life! For so many years, you locked me in the wardrobe, but I didn't dare to say anything. You wanted me to leave Taiwan, I left.
[White and pink caption pointing to Jasper: Cutting lines]
Jasper knows what he dones and he turns away immediately, laughing in frustration. He turns to the handrail on the bridge and is hitting it in mock frustration.
[Red caption: Collapsing]
Jasper apologising to the director with a guilty grin: I'm sorry
Director is a pretty jolly man and says comfortingly: Sometimes actually, it's pretty tiring...you want to...the actors' most difficult part is this here, you have to force yourself to call out some of those hard-to-endure emotions, that you normally don't like to come out. Stiffly tormenting yourself in this way, right? (He comfortingly waves an arm at Jasper.) -----Awww, I think the director knows that it's not Jasper's personality to act this way----

Director: Anyway, who, when they're angry would speak that many words?!
Jasper is opening a water bottle nervously and lookingly teary. ----Not sure if he's touched by the Director's comforting manner, or getting teary because he worked out the emotions when he was acting angry, or both. Probably both----
Jasper: I'm pretty embarrassed (to have messed that up). I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
-Cut to Jasper and Vic talking on camera again-
Jasper, looking stressed: Normally when I'm arguing, I actually just won't talk. (Vic agrees). And then (on a ranting note about his character)...who would still be sprouting out so many words (when they're angry)? But just then, I almost had the mood to say it all, bold and unrestrained.
Vic adds, in explaination about the mood that would make Jasper want to say it all angrily: We had to have a shouting match at each other
Jasper: And then, in the blink of an eye, well actually...I'm still not use to it. Well, actually, because the lines are already memorised, they're pretty familiar,...And I'm grasping it, (so even) about 10 steps in, I won't make any mistakes. But then after having to add on the emotions, (I) discover...
Jasper [Yellow caption]: My head has since been emptied (of my lines ---in other words, he forgets his lines due to all the concentration-----)
-Cuts to the shooting of the scene where Ah Jie is angrily shaking his brother-

Jasper, as AJ, yelling:  I don't want to keep being responsible for your life
He lets go of Vic, as Zi Xiang.
Jasper, as AJ: When your arm was injured, mum and dad were very sad...
Jasper has a pause in his lines and sounds like he's starting to loose his place.
[Purple and yellow caption: Pause / Breaking sound]
Jasper, as AJ: ...I was afraid they'd be more upset, which is why I continued not to say anything (to them) about the issue of your alcohol addiction.
There seems to be a giant pause with each looking at each other.
Director: Stop
Jasper, in a still choked up voice from acting as AJ: Pauses/Breaking sounds?
Director: It's better than before

Director comes over in a good natured manner, probably to brief them again.
-Cuts back to Jasper and Vic talking to the camera-
Jasper: Actually, there's not many opportunities where (I) can shout like this. I feel like this is too "High" (for me). -------Can I just add that Vic looks so cute, like a little kid, sipping his water?!------

-Cuts back to the shooting of the scene-
Jasper, as AJ, shaking his brother: You wanted me to leave Taiwan; I left the country and roamed about. You didn't want me to enter competitions; so I went and became an intern. Have you ever thought about these things I'm doing and who they're for?
Director: Stop. It's ok now (Done!)
Jasper, turning away exhausted [Yellow and white captions with picture of a gun]: It's like a gun -----------Not sure if he's saying "this role is like a gun, having to continuously shoot out lines"or "it was like being shot with a gun-----
Director: Much better than before, much better than before, much better than before. So quick to study it.
-Cuts to Jasper talking to the camera looking grossed out at having to talk so much-
Jasper: Blahblahblahblah...
-Cuts to Vic and Jasper talking to the camera again-
Vic: (Not sure exactly what he starts off by saying.) We both argued till we were hoarse...And in addition, drank the whole bottle of water.
Jasper: Kept drinking and drinking and drinking. (The water) Kept going down and down and down.
Vic: Drank it till it was finished.

End of Translation. Oh, so many feels in this one. So many lovely Puff and Jasper moments. Love how much fun and silliness they get up to while filming romance scenes. And I also liked how kind the director is to the crew. What was your favourite part of this BTS video?
