Filming Locations for Someday or One Day 想見你 - Tainan, Taiwan PART 1

Although it's been happening for awhile, it's only recently come to my attention just how many filming locations people have compiled for Someday Or One Day. I'm not always into visiting filming locations, but sometimes if the place has signage that the drama or film was shot there, or if the building is distinct and people would recognise it as belonging to that drama, I become interested. I also like knowing when there's a restaurant where you can eat the same food as some of the characters, especially if it looked like good food in the drama.

Please Note: None of these photos are mine - please see below pictures for the credits and like the photos on the accounts of the photo takers :)

For Someday or One Day, there's a lot of locations like this, so I thought it'd be worth writing about them. One day, when Covid has passed, I'd love to visit these places (hopefully some of those Someday or One Day signs will be there for awhile!) This post is also a way for me to dream about travel while it seems like a distant desire at the moment. I'm going to group filming locations based on cities - this first one will be Tainan, which is where a lot of the 1998 timeline of the story was shot.

1. 32 Record Store - Xiao Ban Lou 小半樓 / Small Wooden Flat

Address: No. 7, Lane 199, Section 1, Minquan Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700

Chinese Address: 台南市中西區民權路一段199巷7號

Opening Hours: 2:00pm-7:00pm Wednesdays- Saturdays

The Record store owned by Chen Yun Ru's Uncle in Tainan is actually a pottery store called Xiao Ban Lou 小半樓 which roughly translates to 'Small wooden flat.' Since being featured in Someday or One Day, it's become a popular tourist spot as many fans have gone on a pilgrimage to take photos in front of the store (some people have even dressed up like the characters).

2. Grandma Mo's Shaved Ice Shop - Long Quan Being Dian 龍泉冰店/ Long Quan Ice Shop

Address: No. 2-4, Pingdeng Road, Madou District, Tainan City, Taiwan 721

Chinese Address: 台南市麻豆區平等路2-4號

Opening Hours: 7:00am-6:30pm

Grandma Mo, the grandmother of Mo Jun Jie, owns a shaved ice shop in the drama. It's where the boys go to eat desert and you find out that Li Zi Wei's favourite flavour is 'Red Bean with a double dose of condensed milk and pudding' (红豆牛奶冰双倍炼乳加布丁). The good news is that the store exists in real life and you can definitely go there to check out the traditional shaved ice desserts that the Taiwanese love so much. The bad news is the Li Zi Wei's favourite dish is made up - the shop sells more traditional flavours and doesn't have a pudding option. However, that doesn't stop people from ordering the red bean and condensed milk option and bringing their own puddings to dunk on top! (Apparently the shop owner is nice and doesn't mind.) The shop also sells an Egg and condensed milk option, which I think sounds unusual and fun to try (as I can't stand red bean!)

3. Li Zi Wei's Favourite Snack shop (Where he meets young Huang Yu Xuan) - Mimi Dian Gu Zhao Wei 蜜蜜の店古早味/ Honey Ancient Flavour Shop

Address: 5-13 Gubao Street, Anping District, Tainan City (It's on Anping Old Street, but different blogs give different numbers for the stall. It's somewhere between number 5 and number 13!)

Chinese Address: 708 台南市安平區古堡街5號 (旁邊)

Exact position on street: Next to Acai Beef Soup, Dongxing Oyster, opposite to Miaoshou Palace

Opening Hours: 11am- 2:00pm

This small stall is significant in the drama because it's where Li Zi Wei meets the young Huang Yu Xuan for the first time - the small lost child is drooling over his snack and so he gives her one and ends up spending the whole afternoon with her. But drama importance aside, this snack looks pretty tasty, so I wanted to include it as a place to try. It's apparently like Taiwanese Churro - a friend mochi stick with a fine coating of sugar.

4. The noodle shop where the Huang Yu Xuan, Li Zi Wei & Mo Jun Jie go to eat (Where Huang Yu Xuan tests the noodle joke on Li Zi Wei) - Xianqing Mingpin Wu 閒情茗品屋/ Leisure Tea House

Address: No. 97, Lane 57, Section 2, Jinhua Road, South District, Tainan City, Taiwan 702

Chinese Address: 702台南市南區金華路二段57巷97號

Opening Hours: 6:30am-6:00pm (Except Sundays which closes at 2pm)

This restaurant is important because it's over a bowl of noodles that Huang Yu Xuan tests a possible link between Li Zi Wei and Wang Quan Sheng. The link is a lame noodle joke that Wang Quan Shen told her he laughed hard over the first time he heard it. I wonder if a lot of people re-enact this scene from the drama and tell the joke in store now...The restaurant has been arund for 30 years making Tainan pot roast pasta and grilled toasts.

5. The Playground where Huang Yu Xuan tells the boys about her time-travel-body swapping story - Yu Guang Gong Yuan 漁光公園/ Yu Guang Park on Yu Guang Island

Address: No. 39-2, Lane 89, Yuguang Road, Yuguang Island, Anping, Tainan

Chinese Address: 台南安平漁光路89巷39之2號

This playground is where one of the biggest turning points of the drama takes place as Huang Yu Xuan decides to tell the boys the truth about who is really is and enlists their help to help protect Chen Yun Ru who is destined to die on New Year's day. The filming location is actually a playground on a small island called Yu Guang Island. It has distinctive swings and play equipment which is is why fans have gone there for photos (you can really tell the scene was shot there.) It also looks like a fun spot to stop and release your inner child!

6. The Park and Pavilion where Huang Yu Xuan/ Chen Yun Ru hang out and have late nigh snacks and deep conversations - Hong Li Gong Yuan 嗊哩公園/ Hong Li Park

Address: Xinguang Village, Guanmiao District, Tainan City, Taiwan, 718

Chinese Address: 台南關廟新光里

Google Co-ordinates: Xinguang Park Pavilion

Another important park in the drama is the little park with the pavilion that Huang Yu Xuan and Li Zi Wei go to for their late night chats. It's here that the two characters have their heart to heart conversations and banter about life. Huang Yu Xuan first reveals Wang Quan Sheng to Li Zi Wei here. It's also where one of the more dramatic scenes with Chen Yun Ru takes place - where she tells Li Zi Wei that Huang Yu Xuan was made up. Because so many fans have come looking for this place, they've now put up a sign indicating that this shelter was the official filming location for Someday or One Day. This filming location is in the middle of an area known for it's colourfully painted houses which are also worth a visit for the photos.

7. The Pavilion where they shelter for rain & the street where they run in the rain (where Li Zi Wei falls in love with Huang Yu Xuan) - Niu Zhaung Village 牛庄社區

Address: Niuzhuang Village, Niuzhuang Village, Shanhua District, Tainan City

Chinese Address: 台南市善化區牛庄社區

Google Co-ordinates: Niu Zhaung Park Pavillion

One of the most beautiful and significant scenes in the drama takes place in the small suburban area of Niu Zhaung. While sheltering and later running from the rain, Li Zi Wei falls in love with Huang Yu Xuan because of her fun and carefree spirit. This scene is the basis for Li Zei Wei discovering that Chen Yun Ru is back. It's also the inspiration for his drawing, which helps Huang Yu Xuan to find out that Li Zi Wei is actually Wang Quan Sheng. The suburb where this scene was filmed contains the pavilion they took shelter in, the road they ran on and some of the roads and river that the characters walk through to get to school.

These are just some of the fun main filming locations I'm interested in visiting myself in Tainan. There were so many places that I've written a second list on a separate post which you can read here. I will also be doing other posts on the filming locations in Taipei and Yilan. For those who want a very comprehensive list of every place the drama was shot at, feel free to look at this map below (though it is in a limited size) or the list below that (though it is all in Chinese):
