Fan Meet: The Devil Punisher 天巡者 holds Halloween Fan Meet with full cast including Ivy Shao 邵雨薇 & Mike He 賀軍翔

I was actually pretty happy when I realised that they had scheduled this series over Halloween and even happier to find out that the drama would have a fan meet on Halloween itself! It would definitely have been missing an opportunity if it didn't celebrate the occasion.

From the Fan Meet Introductions

Mike said he felt lucky that they were still able to meet fans in Taiwan because some other countries were facing serious Covid issues where gatherings were not allowed. The host said it was nice to see Ivy and Mike joking around and she was glad to see them onscreen especially as Mike was from her generation of stars - the generation that really started it. They talk about his character, Zhong Kui, having feelings for Meng Po. Mike explained that in a past life they were lovers and so even when they reincarnated into their immortal forms, he was still in love with her - so it was a thousand year love and he only had her in his heart. The host of the fan meet asked Mike to say that to Ivy while looking at her. Mike turned to Ivy and said it's a thousand year love and in his heart he only had...his wife! Making Ivy and the host laugh.

The host asked Ivy if she's ever felt fluttered by Mike's voice or gaze...especially since Mike is like "a much older brother type" to her. Mike laughed and replied, "What are you saying???" Ivy joked that Mike is like an 'ahjussi' (Korean 'uncle'.) Mike liked the idea of being an 'ahjussi.' In response to the hosts' question, Ivy said she felt those flutters in the drama as her character, but as an actor, they found all the romantic scenes very funny and would laugh at them. The host asked if Ivy felt Mike was more like an 'older brother' or 'uncle' ...or like an equal (For those not familiar to Chinese culture: older guys are known as older brothers or uncles even if not related to you. It's a funny question as Mike is only older than Ivy by 5 years).

Ivy said that Mike liked to ramble on, so he's probably more like an uncle! Mike joking added "Not like a dad?" (Because he is a dad now!) But Ivy said the feeling they had was like 'having a deep attachment.' Ivy said Mike likes to talk a lot and Mike said that he needed to talk a lot so that he wouldn't fall asleep these days and so that he would look professional! The host then said that more than being an uncle or whatnot, Mike is an idol. She said that Ivy pretended to be so cute in the drama and Ivy joked that it was not pretend - she really was cute (but added that she was joking!) The host asked about a line from the drama that Ivy had to say ("I'm so cute. How could you not recognise me?") and Ivy said that the line was not originally in the script but during rehearsal she was being silly and said it. Then the director liked it so much that they wanted it in the final scene - so it was an ad-lib. The host asked Ivy to say it to Mike since she said that Mike had said something romantic to her, but Ivy said he said it to his wife, but facing her! So Ivy ends up saying it to the audience instead.

From the Media Interview

Mike He watched the first episode of the drama with his eldest daughter. She was allowed to stay up late to watch the episode air as him and his wife had also decided to stay up. And he joked that the age limit for this show would be up to 30 years old. He said that his daughter was cute - she would run up to her dad, hug and kiss him and say "Dad, you're so handsome" especially if he still had some of his costume on. Ivy joked that in future after watching this episode, his daughter would probably dress up like Meng Po and make the magical soup for him. Mike laughed and said actually that's what his daughter was doing the day before. He came back and saw her playing at her play kitchen (she was filling bowls with dried flowers/ herbs and water) and he was wondering if she was being Meng Po. He asked her what she was doing and she said making soup!

There was a scene in the drama where Ivy hit Johnny (like she actually slapped him full in the face). The reporters asked Johnny if he was shocked. He said he was shocked for 3 seconds and even forgot his lines, but he felt that he could only continue acting on in the scene. But he said he knows that Ivy was very committed to acting her scenes and he said said he was happy to be hit- so no need to blame Ivy! Haha, he's such a sweetheart.

Mike joked that this series uses guys who are putting their life on the line for the drama. Ivy said jokingly not to talk so quick because Mike was also going to be hit by her and Mike said he would. Mike then made a joke to the camera - would he really be hit by Ivy Shao? Please look forward to it! They also asked Ivy how many people she hit in this series and she said 4! Everyone kept teasing Ivy about hitting people and Ivy said she was very nervous about hitting others, so she tried to be more careful after Johnny. But Mike laughs and says "What?? You were careful??" He jokes that after every hitting scene all the guys "respected" Ivy (ie. were afraid of her) and she was their "Senior" and no one dared to go near her.
